The Wireless Intrusion Detection System (WIDS) and In-Place Monitoring System (IPMS) is designed to monitor and secure radio frequency (RF) environments by analyzing over-the-air packet data. Its technical purpose is to identify, classify, and track wireless devices, including those that use randomized MAC addresses. The system captures Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and IEEE 802.15.4 traffic operating in the 2.4 GHz band, while offering optional support for sub-GHz protocols such as Wi-SUN and Z-Wave.
The system can operate in both passive and active modes to monitor approved versus rogue devices and map their physical locations using GPS. It utilizes a scalable architecture, starting with a single sensor node and monitoring station connected via Ethernet. This can be expanded to include multiple time-synchronized nodes, which allows for the centralized analytics of device traffic patterns, signal levels, and interactions across the monitored area.
