Mimecast Web Security is a cloud-based cybersecurity solution that provides protection from malicious web activity by blocking access to inappropriate websites based on configured policies. The service uses web filtering with a dynamic proxy to inspect DNS requests and apply anti-virus, SSL inspection, URL categorization and static file analysis. When users request internet access, Mimecast receives the DNS request for inspection, scans websites for malicious content, evaluates them against organizational policies, and either grants immediate access to safe sites or blocks suspicious websites with explanatory messages. The solution blocks employee access to malicious websites designed to deliver malware or phishing attacks and inspects file downloads from suspicious sites via web proxy service with static file analysis and multiple AV engines. The system provides comprehensive historical web access audit logging with CSV export capability and Application Visibility and Control capabilities that provide full visibility of cloud app usage and enable policy-based blocking, allowing, and monitoring of applications. The solution integrates with other Mimecast security services to provide consistent email and web security controls and protects remote and mobile workers with consistent security and controls for devices both on and off the network.
