The Mimecast Synchronization Engine is a proprietary application that installs in an organization's environment to enable closer integration between Microsoft infrastructure and the Mimecast cloud. The application synchronizes Active Directory with Mimecast using a secure outbound connection from the internal network. It offers features and functionality that can be applied to mailboxes, messages, attachments, and folders through configurable definitions and task schedules. The Calendar Replication feature extracts calendar appointments and attachments from Exchange mailboxes and submits this data to the Mimecast platform for end user access. The Mailbox Folder Replication feature continuously extracts folder and message metadata from Microsoft Exchange mailboxes and submits it to the Mimecast platform, allowing users to access their Mimecast archive in a familiar structured format. Mailbox Storage Management identifies and takes action on email attachments in Exchange mailboxes while allowing direct access to Mimecast stored message data from the Exchange mailbox, enabling administrators to control mailbox sizes on corporate Exchange servers.
