Smart Building OTAC is a software-based authentication solution designed to secure the transmission of operational commands over 5G networks to IoT devices during emergencies. The system functions by tokenizing commands from a control server into a dynamic, one-time authentication code (OTAC) payload. This payload is transmitted directly to the IoT device's modem, bypassing intermediate hardware such as wireless routers and gateways to maintain constant communication.
A lightweight applet, operating directly on the device's SIM card, validates the incoming OTAC, extracts the command from the payload, and executes it on the edge device. This architecture is intended for deployment on low-compute IoT devices and provides a scalable method for securing communications without requiring additional hardware infrastructure. Its purpose is to mitigate security risks, including command control takeovers and firmware attacks.
