Mimecast Security Agent is a client-side software component that works with Mimecast Web Security to provide protection from malicious activity initiated by users or malware. The agent blocks access to inappropriate websites based on configured policies and redirects all DNS traffic to Mimecast, bypassing local DNS configuration. It automatically installs the Mimecast SSL root certificate into the Windows Trust Store for browser certificate authority validation. The agent enforces specific policies based on user email addresses or applies default location policies. It can block or monitor direct IP connections that occur without known DNS requests and includes transparent user identification functionality that eliminates the need for user interaction with the security agent. The software supports Windows and macOS operating systems and requires deployment via Enterprise Mobility Management or Mobile Device Management platforms that support the AppConfig standard.
