OTAC Auth - MFA for PLCnext by SSenStone is a modular authentication security solution designed for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) in industrial control systems, operational technology (OT) environments, and smart factories. It implements a secure and advanced user authentication process using SSenStone's proprietary One-Time Authentication Code (OTAC) technology, which generates unique, one-way dynamic codes for each connection and command. This solution moves away from vulnerable password-based systems and adopts a Zero Trust security model. OTAC Auth can be installed directly on PLC devices, including those with low computing resources, and is specifically designed to work with the PLCnext automation platform. It enables multi-factor authentication (MFA) for PLCnext devices via a user's smartphone, supporting both Google and Apple mobile devices. The solution provides a convenient and robust security process for industrial automation environments, including those using closed networks. OTAC Auth can operate without a network connection and can be combined with biometrics or PIN for enhanced security. It is divided into server and client components, where the server can be installed on a central edge PLC, while clients are installed on individual PLCs requiring MFA.
