MetaDefender Update Downloader is a utility designed to download updates on an internet-connected computer for subsequent transfer to offline or air-gapped environments running OPSWAT products such as MetaDefender Core, Metascan, and Central Management. It functions as an intermediary update source, retrieving update packages for engines and databases, including those for Adaptive Sandbox, Reputation, Country of Origin (COO), and Software Bill of Materials (SBOM). The system generates these packages into bulk files for manual transfer, bridging the gap for isolated networks or those with restrictive firewall configurations that prevent direct update connections.
Management of the utility is conducted through a centralized web management console and a REST API, which enable administrators to manage licenses, control product inventories, and create targeted update packages. The system operates using the offline license files of its target products and supports the On-prem License Management Server (OLMS). Technical capabilities include automated deployment via ignition files, post-action scripting, audit logging, and API key protection using SHA256 hashing. It is compatible with Windows, Ubuntu, Debian, and Rocky Linux operating systems and includes built-in diagnostic scripts for generating support packages.
