MetaDefender Managed File Transfer is a server-based platform for automating, monitoring, and controlling file transfers within and across organizations, including high-security, operational technology (OT), and air-gapped environments. It integrates with MetaDefender Core to enforce security policies by processing files before delivery to the network. This is accomplished using technologies such as anti-malware multi-scanning, Deep Content Disarm and Reconstruction (CDR), Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and sandbox analysis to detect and remove threats and sensitive data. The system protects data through end-to-end encryption for transfers, AES-256 encryption for stored files, and checksum-based verification to maintain file integrity.
The platform provides centralized administration and visual workflow orchestration, with real-time dashboards and comprehensive audit logging for all file operations. Its architecture supports active-passive high availability clustering for service continuity. Automation is facilitated by event-based job triggers and an API for management. The system uses customizable, multi-stage supervisor approval workflows and integrates with protocols such as SFTP and FTPS, as well as identity providers including Active Directory and Okta. Access control is managed through role-based permissions, multi-factor authentication, and trusted network validation.
