MetaDefender Kiosk App by OPSWAT is a software-based security application that functions as a media scanning station to control data transfers from removable media into critical, air-gapped, or sensitive IT and OT environments. Available for hardened Windows and Linux operating systems, it is deployed on approved hardware to process peripherals such as USB devices, CDs/DVDs, and SD cards. The system's workflow engine analyzes files using a combination of multi-engine antivirus scanning, Content Disarm and Reconstruction (CDR), Data Loss Prevention (DLP), and vulnerability assessment. Based on configured security policies, the application sanitizes or redacts content, blocks threats, and securely transfers approved files to clean media or integrated managed file transfer systems.
The application integrates with a central management platform for remote configuration of policies, groups, and users, as well as for health status monitoring and visualized data reporting. For operational security, it performs hardware integrity checks at startup and includes features such as BadUSB keystroke suppression. As a component of the OPSWAT ecosystem, MetaDefender Kiosk can orchestrate file workflows with other products and serve as a hardware connection point to synchronize scan reports and update engines with devices like MetaDefender Drive. The system generates detailed session reports, providing an auditable record of all media processing activities for compliance purposes.
