Anapaya EDGE is a gateway appliance that connects existing IP networks to the SCION Internet, deployable on physical hardware or within a virtual environment. Positioned at the network edge, it establishes secure site-to-site communication for an organization's branches, partners, and suppliers. The system utilizes an IP-in-SCION tunneling mechanism to encapsulate and route standard IP traffic over the SCION infrastructure. This design allows existing applications, clients, and servers to leverage SCION-based networking without requiring modifications to the IT infrastructure or end-user devices.
The appliance provides granular, policy-based control over data paths, allowing administrators to select routes based on criteria including latency, cost, provider, or geopolitical boundaries. It ensures high availability through multipathing across redundant ISP connections and sub-second failover capabilities. For security, Anapaya EDGE reduces the network attack surface by creating closed networks of trust domains, limiting service visibility to authorized peers. Data in transit is secured via EDGE-to-EDGE payload encryption, which utilizes the IPsec ESP protocol and SCION's public key infrastructure.
