The BIO-key EcoID II is a compact USB fingerprint scanner featuring a NEXT Active Thermal sensor with a 12 x 17 mm capture area and an image resolution of 180 x 256 pixels (385 ppi). The device measures 52.7 x 28.1 x 9.8mm, weighs 35g, and has an imaging power consumption of 75 mA at 5.0 V. It connects via a USB-C 2.0 interface and includes both a USB-C to USB-C cable and a USB-C to USB-A adapter.
Designed for Windows 10 and Windows 11 desktops and workstations, the EcoID II integrates directly with the Windows Biometric Framework (WBF). This provides native hardware support for Microsoft Passport and Windows Hello biometric login platforms, enabling fingerprint sign-in without requiring additional software. The scanner is intended for commercial use to replace password-based sign-in and is capable of supporting other enterprise authentication methods when used with compatible identity management software. The device is not compatible with Apple operating systems.
