The DD1G series operates on Ethernet Layer 2, automatically transferring all network data from the upstream to the downstream network, regardless of the overlaying network protocol. The data diode requires unidirectional network protocols, such as UDP. If other protocol support is needed, interfacing systems must act as proxy services to convert these protocols into a unidirectional flow. For bidirectional communication, the DD1G series can be combined with the Advenica Data Diode Engine, a standalone proxy software solution for managing data transfer through Ethernet-based diodes.
