Anapaya CORE is a carrier-grade software router designed to function as the backbone of the SCION Internet for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and network providers. Deployed on a provider's existing network infrastructure, it operates as a core router at the network border. Multiple CORE instances establish connectivity to form the backbone and enable connections between different SCION-enabled Autonomous Systems (ASes).
The system manages SCION control and data plane functions, which include path discovery, validation, and packet forwarding. It facilitates network expansion by allowing providers to peer with other SCION-enabled networks through SCION-abled Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) or transit providers. The router also handles end-customer access routing to the SCION network and includes traffic engineering operations for the managing provider.
