The Niagra Networks Cloud Intelligence TAP (CIT) is a cloud-native virtual TAP (vTAP) solution designed to capture network traffic within virtualized environments. It provides visibility into East-West, inter-VM, and mid-plane traffic across private, public, and hybrid cloud platforms, including VMware. The solution operates at the hypervisor level to collect packet data at the source before encapsulation or zone distribution occurs, addressing visibility gaps inherent in virtualized networking models. As a primary traffic capture point, it functions within hybrid and multi-cloud monitoring architectures.
The system adapts to dynamic and autoscaling workloads by tracking virtual machines as they are initiated, stopped, or migrated across host platforms. Managed centrally through the CIP Controller, the CIT performs multi-layer traffic filtering to reduce payload size and bandwidth consumption. It subsequently exports the optimized packet data using GRE tunneling to security, monitoring, and analytics tools. This elastic scaling is designed to maintain continuous visibility across dynamic virtual infrastructures.
