CodeTwo Backup for Office 365 is a desktop application designed for data backup and recovery across Microsoft cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments. The software supports data from Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, and Microsoft Teams, as well as on-premises Exchange and SharePoint Servers. It performs an initial full backup followed by continuous incremental backups, storing the data in encrypted local repositories. The application connects to Microsoft 365 tenants via Microsoft Entra ID using Modern Authentication (OAuth 2.0) with multi-factor authentication (MFA) support, utilizing APIs such as Microsoft Graph and Exchange Web Services to transfer data.
The platform provides a centralized graphical interface to manage backup and restore jobs across multiple tenants, with controls for scheduling and retention policies. It enables granular, point-in-time recovery, allowing for the restoration of entire mailboxes and site collections or individual items like emails and files. Data can be restored to its original location, a different tenant, or an on-premises environment. Additional capabilities include archiving mailbox data to PST files, placing data on legal hold, and preserving Microsoft Purview Message Encryption properties during backup and restore operations. A permission mapping feature facilitates the transfer of access rights during recovery.
