Acala by Information Security Corporation is a software-based Hardware Security Module (HSM) emulator that functions as a universal key store and cryptographic service provider. It provides servers with the functionality of a physical HSM at a lower cost. Acala stores server credentials in a single encrypted file on any designated storage device, such as a local hard drive, network share, or removable memory device. It offers cryptographic operations to security-enabled programs through a PKCS#11 application programming interface. Acala is specifically designed for use with offline Certificate Authorities (CAs) and is compatible with CertAgent, ISC's customer-hosted Certificate Authority software.
